Head: Prof. Dr. Metka Renko |
BASIC INFORMATION The chair of Biochemistry is located at the J. Stefan Institute and is immersed into its Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The only undergraduate Biochemistry programme in Slovenia is taught at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, since 1998/99. It is a 4 year programme (preparation of the B.Sc. thesis in the 5th year). For details please check the year-by-year programme.

Prof.
Dr. Metka
Renko
Head of the Chair, lecturer of Biochemistry for
students of pharmacy, laboratory biomedicine, chemistry and
biochemistry; also teaches selected chapters of Food chemistry and
Biochemistry and part of Molecular Immunology.
Prof.
Dr. Brigita
Lenarcic
Professor Brigita Lenarcic lectures biochemistry to pharmacy and
biochemistry students. She also
teaches Enzymatics, Enzymology and Enzyme Technology to students of
biochemistry. In 2001, Dr. Lenarcic
was awarded by ISI as most cited Slovenian woman scientist in the
period 1991-2001.
Assist.
Prof. Dr. Marko Dolinar
Teaching assistant Marko Dolinar is
lecturer of Recombinant DNA Technology. In the current semester, he is
starting to conduct Biochemistry Seminar for biochemistry
students. He also leads the practical course
of Recombinant DNA Technology.
Dr. Vera
Zupunski
Teaching assistant Vera Zupunski is mainly involved in preparing the
practical course of biochemistry. She joined the chair full-time in May
2003.
Dr.
Nika
Lovsin
Teaching assistant Nika Lovsin is guiding practicals in general
biochemistry and evolution. She is currently posdoctoral fellw at the
University of California, San Francisco.
Dr.
Petra
Prijatelj
Teaching assistant Petra Prijatelj is instructor for various practical
courses in biochemistry, including protein structure. She is
postdoctoral fellow at the New York University this year.
Matjaz Malavasic is technician.
Biochemistry
programme can only be accomplished with aid of external coworkers:
Prof. Dr. Vito Turk, currently
director of the J. Stefan Institute, former head of the Chair.
Lecturers: Assist. Professors Igor Krizaj (protein
structure,
biological membranes), Dusan Turk (protein structure), Dusan Kordis
(molecular evolution), Roman Jerala (bioinformatics), Assoc. Professors
Joze Pungercar
(molecular genetics), Vladka Curin Serbec (immunology)
and many more.
Research
interests are best illustrated by the list of recent publications
(Dept. of Biochem. and Mol. Biol., J. Stefan
Institute).
