Peroxisomes are dynamic
membrane bound organelles, capable of adapting to diverse cellular end
environmental conditions. Their ability to perform various metabolic functions relies
on successful import of matrix proteins. Impairment of peroxisome functions
leads to many diseases (PBD – peroxisome biogenesis disorders), such as the Zellweger syndrome. Inheritance and regulation of size and
abundance of peroxisomes in cell is not yet fully understood.
Pex11 was the first
protein identified to have a role in peroxisome biogenesis in yeast. Using condition
dependent SGA technique, we plan to identify genetic interactions of this evolutionary
predecessor of nuclear receptors, and hopefully shed some light on other, more
elusive roles it has in cellular processes in yeast.
