The
Department of Biotechnology was established at the Jožef Stefan Institute on
January 1st 2007 following the division of the former
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Researchers
of the Department of Biotechnology investigate biological molecules of
microbiological, fungal, plant and animal origin using modern biotechnological
methods. We would like to apply them for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in
human and veterinary medicine, for plant protection, preparation of quality and
safe food and for the protection of the environment .
Researchers
of the Department of Biotechnology participate actively in education in the
fields of biochemistry, pharmacy, molecular and cell biology and immunology. We
hereby transfer our knowledge to young generations.
The goal of our work is to contribute to
improvement of peoples’ health and of the environment in which we live.
